Empowering Our Villages: NARSCA
In the heart of West Edinburgh, the villages of Newbridge and Ratho Station are home to a vibrant, growing population with a unique set of needs. Driving the pulse of this community is the Newbridge and Ratho Station Community Association (NARSCA), an entirely voluntary organisation dedicated to ensuring these villages remain inclusive, cohesive, and well-represented.
A Bridge Between Communities
NARSCA was founded on the principle of unity. By bringing together residents from both Newbridge and Ratho Station, the association creates a singular, stronger voice for the area. As a wholly voluntary group, its members are neighbours who dedicate their time to fostering a sense of belonging, ensuring that as Edinburgh expands westward, the identity and well-being of the local residents are never sidelined.
Advocating for Change: The Voice of the Residents
One of NARSCA’s primary missions is to act as a vital link between the community and the corridors of power. Whether it is a concerns about safety, transport, disruption caused by events on our doorstep, or anything that affects local residents, the association works tirelessly to progress local issues with:
-
The City of Edinburgh Council: Addressing Ward 1 (Almond) issues such as road maintenance, bin collections, and school safety.
-
National Politicians: Engaging with our MP and MSP on broader legislative matters that impact the quality of life in West Edinburgh.
-
Local Businesses: Collaborating with the industrial and commercial sectors in Newbridge to ensure that economic growth doesn’t come at the cost of residential peace.
Solving Local Problems
From monitoring the impact of heavy goods vehicle (HGV) traffic on Station Road to advocating for reliable bus services, NARSCA is on the front lines of local problem-solving. By providing a platform for residents to voice their concerns, the association ensures that problems – no matter how small – are brought to the attention of those who can fix them.
Keeping You Informed
Communication is the cornerstone of a healthy community. Beyond our digital presence and newsletter, NARSCA maintains the physical village noticeboards that serve as essential information hubs:
-
Ratho Station: Located opposite Scotmid on Hillwood Road.
-
Newbridge: Situated on Parkside, near the former Royal Bank of Scotland building.
These boards are a window into the association’s work, displaying minutes of meetings, local event flyers, and urgent community alerts.
